The paper describes two approaches to problem of active damping of vibrations of plate structures. First one uses standard LTI mathematical model of system and state feedback with state observer designed by the pole placement or LQ optimization. The second one is based on experimental identification of the first modal shape and design dynamic compensator. Both methods are confronted in regard of quality and robustness of the control law.
